A man is dead after the tractor he was driving overturned in Longdenville, Chaguanas, on Saturday (27th January, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Sunil Samaroo, of Edinburgh Road, Longdenville, Chaguanas.
According to reports, Samaroo was driving his Ford Major tractor up a steel ramp onto a DFM 3-tonne flatbed truck, which was parked along his driveway to his premises. However, the tractor suddenly overturned and crushed Samaroo’s head. He died at the scene.
Police were notified and a team of Officers responded to the scene, led by Sgt. Bagoo.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) also visited the scene and ordered the removal of Samaroo’s body. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Ian Alleyne]

A home was destroyed by fire in Carapichaima on Monday night (29th January, 2024), leaving a family of eleven (11) persons without shelter.
According to reports, a fire started at the home, located along Robert Street, Bank Village, Carapichaima, around 10:00 PM. Residents immediately formed a bucket brigade in an attempt to extinguish the blaze. However, the fire continued to spread quickly. Police and Fire Services were contacted and Fire Officers from the Chaguanas and Couva Fire Stations responded to the scene. They managed to contain the blaze using water and foam. However, the home could not be saved and was subsequently destroyed.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.

[Source: Ian Alleyne] The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) said it intercepted an unregistered vessel this morning (Wednesday 31st January, 2024), carrying a number of undocumented foreign nationals that had crossed the Trinidad/Venezuela International Maritime Border. The incident occurred at approximately 9:43 AM when the vessel was first observed Southeast of Islote Point on the South coast of Trinidad.
According to the TTCG, a pursuit ensued, and the vessel made an attempt to avoid interception through the use of evasive maneuvers. The TTCG said it pursued the contact of interest and was eventually able to detain the vessel. Onboard were twenty-seven (27) undocumented foreign nationals, comprising: sixteen (16) adult males, eight (8) adult females, and three (3) male minors. The persons and the vessel were taken in tow and escorted to the TTCG's Headquarters in Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas. The Immigration Division and Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) were informed. Investigations are ongoing. The TTCG said it “continues to provide border security and search and rescue services to maintain the safety and security of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the conduct of maritime security patrols within our area of operations.” A man is dead following a shooting incident in Penal on Tuesday night (30th January, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Lalchan Edward. His body was discovered on Wednesday in a bushy area off Smart Street, Penal, in an area known as ‘D’ Dogpatch.’ According to reports, residents heard several loud explosions on Tuesday night. Edward was last seen by residents on Tuesday while he was breaking down a house in the area. Edward’s father, Dennis admitted that his son was involved in nefarious activities. “He is a drugs man and he used to come and smoke here and he owing somebody money,” he lamented. The father said he saw his son last week when he came to visit him at his Barrackpore home.
Given the situation, he said he warned his son to stay away from the area where he was found murdered. “Last week he was by me there and he had some money, I don’t know if he came to pay them or what but like they done him. I tell him that [to stay away]. He say he not coming but he come. I tell him not to come […] He say no daddy me eh go go, look what he do,” he sobbed. Dennis was said to be inconsolable at the scene. [Source: CNC3] The Licensing Division of the Ministry of Works and Transport is advising the general public that the licensing service for the inspection of vehicles, 6,000 Kg MGW and up, will resume at the Wrightson Road Licensing Office, effective from Friday (2nd February, 2024).

Police arrested three (3) suspects on Tuesday (30th January, 2024) during an anti-crime exercise in Barataria. The men, identified as 31-year-old Joseph Hunt of Sea Lots, Port-of-Spain; 18-year-old Colan Peters of Production Avenue, Sea Lots; and 30-year-old Obrian Mc Cully of Production Avenue, Sea Lots, are expected to answer to charges of attempted store breaking with intent and possession of housebreaking implements by night.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 9:30 PM on Monday night (29th January, 2024), the supervisors at a gas station located at #31A 10th Avenue, Barataria, in the vicinity of Maritime Roundabout, secured the service station by locking all windows and doors and went away. At 2:45 AM the following morning, the informant awoke from sleep and checked the CCTV cameras located at the said service station, when she observed three (3) men unknown to her, attempting to gain entry to the service station through a door to the rear of the building.
The informant contacted the Police who responded in quick time and arrested the three (3) suspects. The suspects were in possession of a number of house breaking implements.
All three (3) suspects were cautioned by PC Villalorel and subsequently conveyed to the Barataria Police Station, pending further enquiries. Two (2) Directors of a prominent car dealership located in La Romaine, San Fernando, were arrested during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Southern Division yesterday (Tuesday 30th January, 2024).
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), between 3:50 PM and 6:25 PM, a team of Officers attached to the Stolen Vehicles Squad executed a search warrant on the premises of a new and/or used car dealership located in La Romaine, San Fernando. The Officers conducted a comprehensive search at the location in the presence of two (2) of the company’s Directors, during which time items of evidential value relating to the investigation were seized. Both Directors, a father and son, were deemed suspects in recent reports of larceny motor vehicle. They were both arrested and conveyed to the Stolen Vehicle Squad Office in Port-of-Spain. The exercise was led by Senior Superintendent Ramjohn, Superintendent Etienne, ASP Ramdass and supervised by Inspector Lazarus. Enquiries are continuing.
A man is dead following a shooting incident in Enterprise, Chaguanas, on Tuesday night (30th January, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Maleek London of Thomas Avenue, Johnson Trace, Enterprise.
According to reports, residents of the area heard several loud explosions at Johnson Trace around 10:40 PM. Upon investigating, they found London in his bedroom in a pool of blood. He had been shot in the abdomen and head.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. However, London succumbed to his injuries.

PC Ramnarine was shot at Bassie Street, Spring Village, Valsayn, on the night of Wednesday 17th January, 2024. Harrinarine, who was assigned to the Traffic Branch, was a member of Prime Minister Keith Rowley’s Police escort. He was shot and killed during what Police believe to be a robbery. According to reports, Harrinarine was with a woman when the incident occurred, in which three (3) assailants approached their vehicle and opened fire. Harrinarine returned fire but sustained fatal injuries during the shootout. CCTV footage of the incident shows Harrinarine in a firefight with another man near to a parked car. A woman is seen running off shortly before the men start shooting at each other. The woman is not said to be a person of interest in Harrinarine’s murder. Do you have information about this murder? The identity of a body found floating in a river in Barrackpore last week has been confirmed to be that of a missing 49-year-old man, Kassie Rampersad, of Chester Street, Debe. The body was spotted by a villager on 24th January, 2024, who was walking along Oropouche Trace North, around 3:00 PM. The villager saw the body floating near the bridge crossing and contacted the Barrackpore Police Station.
The cause of death has not been determined due to the advanced state of decomposition of the body. Two (2) men are said to be assisting Police in their investigations. One of the men was held on Sunday (28th January, 2024), while the other was detained on Tuesday (30th January, 2024). Rampersad, who lived alone, was last seen alive on 11th January, 2024.
