UPDATE: The Met Office has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) due to the threat of this Tropical Wave.
Following the passage of the first Tropical Wave earlier this week, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is advising citizens that a second Tropical Wave is forecast to affect T&T from Sunday 2nd June 2019 and into Monday.
This Tropical Wave is currently embedded within the ITCZ. At this time, Showers and Thunderstorms are in the forecast. A Wind Surge with accompanying Saharan Dust is expected to follow the passage of the Tropical Wave. Initial projections are showing an increase in dust concentrations on Tuesday 4th June 2019. The video below was recorded during the passage of the first Tropical Wave earlier this week, which triggered an early start to the 2019 Rainy Season.
UPDATE (13/06/19): WASA released another statement today reiterating that intermittent rainfall thus far has had no real impact on the country’s four (4) main Reservoirs. Citizens are once again reminded that watering private gardens or washing private motor vehicles, amongst other restrictions, are still prohibited and can lead to Fines upon summary conviction.
UPDATE (03/06/19): Speaking at an Environmental Symposium today, Minister of Public Utilities, Robert Le Hunte, urged citizens to continue to conserve water. Le Hunte also warned that the expected rainfall for June/July will be less than past Rainy Seasons in T&T.
The Water and Sewage Authority is reminding citizens that ‘Water Use Restrictions’ and their corresponding Fines are still in effect, despite the official start of the 2019 Rainy Season. Revised Temporary Water Supply Schedules also remain in effect until further notice.
Water levels at the four (4) main Reservoirs are all below 43% at this time and will require months of regular rainfall in order to fully recover from their depleted levels during the recent harsh Dry Season. See the recent statement from WASA below. It is important to note that a period of consistent or regular rainfall will be required in order to deliver a sustained increase in raw water flows at the Authority’s Surface Water Treatment Plants, which have been adversely affected by the past months of severe dry weather.
