A man has died after getting into difficulties while bathing in Toco this afternoon (Sunday 31st March, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Roland Ramkissoon of Orange Valley, Waterloo Road, Carapichaima. He was pulled out of the waters, unconscious, at Salybia Bay, Toco. According to reports, Ramkissoon was bathing on the Western side of the beach, around 1:50 PM, when he got into difficulties and went underwater. An alarm was raised and lifeguards pulled Ramkissoon out of the water. However, all attempts to resuscitate him failed. Ramkissoon was taken to the Toco Health Facility but was pronounced dead at 2:50 PM. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) issued a Hazardous Seas Alert (Yellow Level) from 8:00 PM last night (Saturday 30th March, 2024), until 12:00 PM on Monday (1st April, 2024) for Northern and North-Eastern coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) said it is “actively responding” to an incident that occurred on Saturday night (30th March, 2024), around 7:30 PM, in the Diego Martin River.
In a Media Release today (Sunday 31st March, 2024), the Ministry said this matter “involved a collision between a vessel and a barge. Persons involved in the incident were rescued and promptly received medical attention. There have been no reported casualties.” The Ministry added that it “acknowledges the gravity of the situation and has initiated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the details.” The Media Release concluded by saying, “Safety and security along waterways remain a paramount concern for the Ministry of Works and Transport, as such, every effort is being made to swiftly resolve this matter. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.” More on this as it becomes available.
According to reports, a shooting incident occurred along Ariapita Avenue a short while ago this afternoon (Sunday 30th March, 2024). No word as yet on any fatalities or injuries.

A woman was arrested and a firearm and several rounds of ammunition seized during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Central Division on Saturday night (30th March, 2024).
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 7:25 PM, a party of Officers were on mobile patrol in Area North of the Central Division, proceeding West along Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, when they received intelligence information via the E999 Command Center, of a robbery in progress involving a silver Nissan Sentra, which was taken away at gunpoint from Price Plaza, Chaguanas. The Officers quickly proceeded East along the said Chin Chin Road, where they spotted the vehicle turning North into Bonne Aventure Road. They began chasing the vehicle when the occupants opened fire at them. As a result, in keeping with the Use of Force policy, the Officers returned fire, causing the vehicle to crash into a gate along Bonne Aventure Road. Two (2) male suspects exited the said vehicle and ran North into a bushy area, making good their escape. A 30-year-old female suspect was held trying to escape from the left-rear seat of the vehicle. Further checks were made and Officers seized a black Ruger firearm, fitted with a magazine containing seven (7) rounds of 9mm ammunition on the floor of the vehicle. The firearm and ammunition were secured and taken along with the suspect to the Police Station.
In another exercise, also conducted in the Central Division, Officers arrested two (2) persons, one for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and another for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, within 500 metres of a school.

An elderly Canadian man is dead following a home invasion in South-West Trinidad on Friday night (29th March, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Hilton Smith, who was visiting Trinidad from Canada.
According to reports, the body of Smith was found on a bed around 10:30 PM by his brother, Francis Antoine, who went to check on him. His mouth was gagged, and his feet and hands were tied.
Smith was said to be staying at his family’s home at Black Heat Avenue, Silver Stream, Aripero. Antoine said his brother was staying alone in an upstairs apartment. “The tenant from downstairs called me...[Friday] evening to say the back door open and the lights were off, which was unusual. So I contacted my nephew, who was supposed to take him to the Airport, to meet me there,” he said. Smith was supposed to return to his home in Montreal, Canada, on Friday, the day his body was found. Antoine said he looked through a window and saw Smith lying face-down on a bed, clad only in underwear. He then contacted the Police. Upstairs of the house was observed to be ransacked by the intruders. Crime scene investigators retrieved certain items of evidential value from the house. Antoine said his brother, who had been living in Canada since 1976, had arrived in Trinidad in November 2023. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), during a Police exercise along Church Street, Samaroo Village, Arima, a party of Officers proceeded to a bushy area, where they observed a rectangular package. Upon investigation, eight (8) transparent packets of marijuana were discovered, along with two (2) walkie-talkies.
The exercise was conducted at 6:30 PM yesterday (Friday 29th March, 2024) in the Arima Policing District.
Investigations are ongoing.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 12:00 PM on Wednesday (27th March, 2024), Officers at the Central Police Station received a report of a fracas at the Port-of-Spain Prison, Frederick Street. Further information was received that five (5) inmates and seventeen (17) Prison Officers were injured.
An investigation was immediately launched and a team of Officers from the Port-of-Spain CID, under the supervision of Supt. Bernard Etienne was detailed to investigate. The Officers visited the Accident and Emergency Department at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where the inmates were seeking medical attention, suffering from various injuries. They were all medically treated and later discharged. The Officers also visited the Accident and Emergency Department at the Mt. Hope Medical Sciences Complex, where seventeen (17) Prison Officers were being treated for various injuries. Persons were interviewed. They were all later discharged. Information was later received that around 12:20 PM on Friday (29th March 2024), inmate Shurland Brown, 26, who was also injured in the fracas and who was detained at the said institution, passed away while undergoing medical attention. Investigations are ongoing.
According to reports, two (2) men are dead and several others wounded following a stabbing incident this afternoon (Saturday 30th March, 2024) at an apartment building in Oropune Gardens, Piarco. The deceased have been identified as 46-year-old Imtiaz Mohamed and his 23-year-old son, Imraz Nicholas Mohammed.
A minor also sustained stab wounds and was conveyed to Hospital for medical treatment.
Further reports state that a suspect was held inside an apartment, just below from where the murders took place.
