A man has died after getting into difficulties while bathing in Toco this afternoon (Sunday 31st March, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Roland Ramkissoon of Orange Valley, Waterloo Road, Carapichaima. He was pulled out of the waters, unconscious, at Salybia Bay, Toco. According to reports, Ramkissoon was bathing on the Western side of the beach, around 1:50 PM, when he got into difficulties and went underwater. An alarm was raised and lifeguards pulled Ramkissoon out of the water. However, all attempts to resuscitate him failed. Ramkissoon was taken to the Toco Health Facility but was pronounced dead at 2:50 PM. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) issued a Hazardous Seas Alert (Yellow Level) from 8:00 PM last night (Saturday 30th March, 2024), until 12:00 PM on Monday (1st April, 2024) for Northern and North-Eastern coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago.
