Police believe they have found the vehicle used in the kidnapping of El Socorro businesswoman Anesha Narine-Boodhoo. A Toyota Rush SUV, of the same make and model used to kidnap Narine-Boodhoo, was found burnt and abandoned in Caroni on Saturday morning (30th December 2023).
The search for the mother of two (2) teenagers, who was kidnapped by three (3) men on Friday morning (29th December 2023), has now widened following the discovery of the vehicle. The burnt-out vehicle was found by Officers of the Northern Division Task Force in a bushy area off the Caroni North Bank Road, Centeno. Investigators believe criminal elements attempted to set it on fire in a bid to destroy evidence. However, it will still be examined by crime scene investigators. While the vehicle matches the description of the one used in the kidnapping, investigators told the Sunday Express this did not mean it was the same vehicle the kidnappers used to snatch Narine-Boodhoo on Friday morning. Narine-Boodhoo, one of the operators of auto parts supplier Autorama Limited, was kidnapped on Friday morning along Girez Lane, El Socorro. According to reports, she was in her white Toyota Prado when a black Toyota Rush SUV with blue swivel lights pulled up next to her and blocked her path, just metres from her home.
Three (3) unmasked men alighted from the vehicle and made their way towards Narine-Boodhoo. They spoke with her before dragging her out of the SUV and placing her in their vehicle. The suspects then drove off.
No ransom demand has been made for her safe return and she has not been seen since. W-Sgt. Rivers is said to be continuing enquiries. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Trinidad Express]

MOWT: Refrain From Using North Coast Road, Maracas — Area Poses Significant Safety Threat31/12/2023 Pictured Above: Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport and Jimmel Wilson, District Engineer for St. George West, during the assessment of the hill-slide on the North Coast Road, Maracas. According to the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT), Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport, conducted a visit today (Sunday 31st December 2023) to the hill-slide location along the North Coast Road, Maracas, near the first Lookout.
An initial assessment by the Ministry's Highways Division has determined that the area still poses a significant threat to the safety of the traveling public. In light of this, the Ministry notes that “motorists and residents are strongly advised to avoid the area, if possible, until a comprehensive evaluation is conducted by the Ministry.” Minister Sinanan emphasized that the Ministry has mobilized all necessary resources to restore connectivity for local traffic. The Ministry added, “In the interest of prioritizing citizen safety, individuals are urged to refrain from using the North Coast Road.” Please be guided accordingly. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Penal on Wednesday (3rd January 2024). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works — 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
According to T&TEC, the affected areas in Penal are as follows:
T&TEC says it regrets the inconvenience which may be caused by these interruptions. Following a major hill-slide last night (Saturday 30th December 2023) on the North Coast Road, Maracas, approximately 1.5 Km before the Lookout, the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) is advising that connectivity has been restored this morning (Sunday 31st December 2023) for single-lane traffic only. Officers of the North-Eastern Division (NED) were alerted and responded to the hill-slide report at 8:45 PM. According to preliminary information, the hill-slide caused significant damage to the roadway, making it inaccessible for vehicles attempting to enter or exit the area via the route. Motorists and residents were advised at the time to use the Blanchisseuse Road to enter or exit the North Coast via Arima. The Ministry said it deployed a team and equipment last night to clear debris and establish interim connectivity, while ongoing assessments were being conducted. While the Ministry, along with other agencies, were able to clear the debris, commuters and residents are advised to proceed with caution along the roadway, seek alternative routes, or avoid the area if possible, as only one lane of traffic is available near the first Lookout.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is urging the public to only traverse the roadway if absolutely necessary as works are underway to return the carriage way to normalcy. Conditions continue to be monitored by the Police and relevant authorities and updates will be provided accordingly. Commuters were said to have been trapped along the North Coast Road after the hill-slide destroyed a portion of the roadway. The Ministry, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation, as well as the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS) and Trinidad and Tobago Regiment (TTR) were also mobilized following the hill-slide. NED Officers also worked with the authorities to provide necessary support. No major injuries or other damage have been reported at this time. Please be guided accordingly. A man has died at Hospital, days after he was brutally beaten with a rolling pin by his 27-year-old son at their home in Freeport. The deceased has been identified as 57-year-old Bharath Babooram. His son was arrested following the incident which occurred on Tuesday (27th December 2023).
According to reports, Babooram was at his home along Tewarie Circular South, when he got into an argument with his son around 8:00 PM. The confrontation soon turned physical, during which the son armed himself with a rolling pin and dealt his father several blows. Relatives attempted to part the men and later notified Police and Emergency Health Services. Upon arrival at the scene, Officers questioned the suspect and he allegedly told them that “the devil” had beaten the victim. Babooram was then taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and listed in critical condition. He, however, succumbed to his injuries earlier today (Saturday 30th December 2023). Investigations are continuing, led by WPC Joseph. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Ian Alleyne] “We at the National Security Council meet fairly regularly, we take certain decisions and we have certain operations in place. There are demands being made on the Police and the wider security services and the national security services are being constantly resourced to keep them available and effective.” This from Prime Minister Keith Rowley in a Media Release today (Saturday 30th December 2023).
According to the Prime Minister, the brazenness of the criminals is rooted in a belief that:
Prime Minister Rowley continued, “We plan and execute strategies to prevent these truths from prevailing and that they are wrong on both counts. Statistically, the results are not satisfactory but we, as a country, remain focused on getting better results at every turn. For example, only recently we approved the addition, at request, in emergency mode, fifty (50) new vehicles to the patrol fleet of the Police and the Defence Force.” He added, “We are continuously engaged in detecting and managing the millions of rounds of ammunition and the thousands of firearms which are circulating within the country. To this end, we appeal to the public to assist in this fight, to eliminate these frequent outrages and gun crimes, in general, by providing as much information as you are able to, so that the security service personnel can get ahead of the criminals before they callously add to the death and destruction that a handful of citizens wreak upon the vast majority of the population. An illegal gun in the hands of a citizen is not security to anyone. It is simply a clear and present threat to the lives of all citizens since any such weapon can only be used in committing a crime and frequent use of such weapons only help to add to the suffering. If you know something, undertake to say something. The protective services will continue to go after the weapons and their handlers, but their jobs can be greatly enhanced by increased information streams from the sphere of public spiritedness.” The Media Release concluded by saying, “The best holiday gift that can be afforded to any potential shooter is to keep secret the existence of his/her deadly tools and the intention to use them. The protection of the society is a 24-hour seven (7) days a week exercise which will remain the duty and focus of the State as we continue to confront all those who choose violent crime as their contribution to the nation's challenges.”
