The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising citizens of planned maintenance work which will affect several areas of Claxton Bay on Thursday (3rd August 2023). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works — 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

T&TEC says it regrets the inconvenience which may be caused by these interruptions. UPDATE: Sad news — the body of Singh was found around 8:30 PM on Monday night (31st July 2023). Details here. A teenage boy is feared to have drowned in waters off Mayaro after disappearing while swimming with relatives on Sunday evening (30th July 2023). He has been identified as 16-year-old Tyreese Singh and is said to be an Upper Six student of the Rio Claro West Secondary School.
According to reports, the teenager was swimming with a number of relatives around 5:00 PM in waters off Mahanna Drive, off Manzanilla Road, when they experienced difficulties. Life Guards on duty were able to rescue two (2) of the women in the group. However, they were unable to locate Singh. The Coast Guard and Police were notified and a team of Officers responded to the scene, led by PC Eccles. Searches were conducted but were unsuccessful up to 12:00 PM today (Monday 31st July 2023). In a separate incident on Sunday, 9-year-old Omari Providence disappeared in waters at Mission Bay, Toco and he has not been seen since. Simultaneous searches for the bodies of Singh and 9-year-old Providence are ongoing. Members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT), led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, have been combing the beaches for the victims since Sunday. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Loop] Pictured Above: Salina Narcis, 15. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is seeking the public’s assistance to find a missing 15-year-old girl. In a social media post today (31st July 2023), the TTPS said Salina Narcis, of El Socorro, was last seen on Sunday (30th July 2023).

Anyone with information on the teen’s whereabouts can contact the Barataria Police Station at 674-4724, or 999, 555, 911, 800-TIPS or any Police Station or submit a report via the TTPS App. The decomposing body of a man was found at a house on Picton Road, Sangre Grande, on Sunday morning (30th July 2023). The gruesome discovery was made by his female landlord. The deceased is said to be an elderly male of African descent. The body is yet to be positively identified.
According to reports, the landlord told Police there was a foul stench emanating on the premises for the past two (2) days. However, she thought the stench to be that of a dead rodent. The woman reportedly last saw the man alive approximately one (1) week ago. She further told Police that upon making checks on Sunday morning, she found the decomposing body. Officers from the Sangre Grande Police Station were notified and upon arrival at the scene, they observed the body of the deceased in his room. He was in an advanced stage of decomposition. The body was found in a semi-prone position with the left hand on the bed, the right hand below the body, the left leg crunched to the chest, the right leg bent onto the left foot and the head decomposed beyond recognition. He was clad in a dark-coloured T-shirt and a dark-coloured three-quarter pants. The District Medical Officer (DMO) also visited the scene and pronounced the man as deceased. The body was ordered to be removed, pending an autopsy. Investigations are continuing. [Source: T&T Guardian] UPDATE: The body of 9-year-old Omari has not been found as of 6:28 PM on Tuesday night (1st August 2023). According to the HSRT: “It’s 6:28 PM. Just completed our search after lunch today. We will resume our search shortly. The search is for Missing at Sea person, 9-year-old, Omari Providence. This search includes the Air Guard, the Air Support Unit led by Ag. Inspector Ronny Rampallard, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, the Police Officers of the Toco Police Station, relatives of Omari and residents of Toco.” A family from Laventille is in mourning after their 9-year-old boy drowned while bathing at Mission Beach, Toco, on Sunday afternoon (30th July 2023). The deceased has been identified as Omari Providence of Picton Road, Laventille. His body has not been found as of 12:00 PM today (Monday 31st July 2023). A widespread search of the waters is currently underway, involving Captain Vallence Rambharat and members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT), as well as divers from the T&T Coast Guard, fishermen and others.
Three (3) other relatives were said to have experienced difficulties while bathing with 9-year-old Omari. They were rescued and taken to the Toco Health Centre for medical treatment. According to reports, Omari was bathing with his father and the rest of his family around 1:30 PM, when they all got into difficulties. Nearby bathers went to their rescue but were only able to save three (3) family members. Omari disappeared under water and was not seen again. Insp. Sankar, Ag. Cpl. Bhagan and PC Maharaj of the Toco Police Station visited the scene. PC Maharaj is continuing investigations. More on this as it becomes available. There is a low to medium (20% - 40%) chance for an isolated heavy shower or thunderstorm favouring hilly areas and Western Trinidad, during the afternoon.
The Met Office notes that in the event of the occurrence of a thunderstorm, gusty winds and street or flash flooding is likely in the vicinity. The forecast maximum temperature today will be 33°C at Piarco in Trinidad and 32°C at Crown Point in Tobago. Seas are moderate with waves 2m in open waters and near 1m in sheltered areas. A woman drowned while swimming in the waters of Damian Bay, Las Cuevas, on Sunday afternoon (30th July 2023). The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Margaret Ramdoolie of Arena Road, Freeport.
According to reports, Ramdoolie visited Damian Bay with relatives on Sunday, when they ventured into the waters for a swim around 4:30 PM. However, shortly after, her relatives noticed she was floating face-down, about fifty (50) feet from the shore, and raised an alarm. One of her relatives eventually pulled her to shore. An Ambulance was called to the scene and Emergency Medical Technicians performed CPR on the woman, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to revive her. She was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased around 6:19 PM. Investigations are continuing. [Source: T&T Guardian] Two (2) persons were killed in a shooting incident early Sunday morning (30th July 2023) in Carenage. The deceased have been identified as 21-year old Nayland Glasgow and 28-year-old Dayna Joyles, both of Upper Abbe Poujade Street, Carenage.
According to reports, an informant told Police she was at home around 1:30 AM, when she heard several loud explosions. Upon looking out her window, she saw the bodies of the two (2) victims lying on a bridge, across a river to their home. Investigations are continuing into the brutal double murder. [Source: CCN TV6] The Ministry of Health is advising the public that the Public Health Regulations [2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019 nCoV)] (No 2) 2023, will end at Midnight on 31st July 2023. As such, the Ministry said wearing of masks at all Public and Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics will no longer be mandatory.
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced the end of the global Pandemic on 5th May 2023, declaring it an established and ongoing health issue, which no longer constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). A Toco man is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate on Monday (31st July 2023). The man is charged with robbery with aggravation, possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of firearm and ammunition to endanger life, and discharging a firearm within forty (40) metres of a roadway.
30-year-old Kristoff Mendoza, a shopkeeper of Three Quarter Mile Mark, Toco Main Road, Matura, was charged on Saturday (29th July 2023). According to a Police report on 18th June 2023, a 37-year-old man of Penal was attempting to turn his Black Toyota Hilux vehicle along Orosco Road, Matura, when two (2) men alighted from a White Wingle pick-up van and allegedly pointed a gun at the victim. The man became afraid and exited his Hilux vehicle and ran for safety. One of the men jumped into the Hilux and the other into the White Wingle pick-up van, making their escape. The Eastern Division Task Force (Area North) Officers were contacted and investigations were conducted by PC Amann. As the investigation progressed, a search warrant was issued at the home of one of the suspects. The Officers retrieved items of evidential value and Mendoza was arrested on 26th July 2023. |
