Two (2) men are in Police custody following a report of robbery with violence in the Couva district on Wednesday (28th February, 2024). An SUV allegedly used in the robbery was also seized.
According to reports, Officers of the Central Division, acting on a tip-off in connection with a report of a robbery with violence in the Couva district, went to Maraj Lane in Freeport and arrested two (2) suspects, ages twenty-six (26) and thirty-three (33), both of Freeport. The Officers were conducting anti-crime exercises in the Couva and Freeport Police districts between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Wednesday, when they received the tip-off. The Officers also seized a dark-coloured Kia Sportage SUV, which was allegedly used in the robbery. The SUV was taken to the Couva Police Station. Investigations are continuing. [Source: Newsday] North-Central Division Officers have made a major breakthrough in solving several reports of motor vehicle larceny in the Tunapuna and Arouca districts, with the arrest of a 20-year-old man.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Roland Moonesar, of El Dorado, was charged with six (6) counts of motor vehicle larceny and two (2) counts of larceny, when he appeared before Master Shah on Monday (26th February, 2024). The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail with surety in the sum of $550,000 for four (4) counts of motor vehicle larceny and two (2) counts of larceny. These matters were transferred to the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court. He was also granted bail in the sum of $150,000 with surety for two (2) counts of motor vehicle larceny, which were also transferred to the Arima and Tunapuna Magistrates’ Courts. The matter was adjourned to 20th March, 2024. The TTPS said the breakthrough came on 19th February, 2024, when a victim made a report of motor vehicle larceny in the El Dorado district. An operation co-ordinated by the Command Centre resulted in Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) Officers responding and recovering the vehicle within minutes of the report being made. A male suspect was arrested a short distance away, while another managed to escape. Through the painstaking and commendable work of Cpl. Stevenson, Officers were able to charge the suspect in connection with six (6) reports originating out of the Tunapuna and Arouca districts. High commendation also came to PCs Trotman and Lindsay of the ERP, who effected the arrest of the suspect within minutes of the report being made to the Police. Other Officers involved in the investigation included Sgt. Newton, WPC Singh, PC Norville, PC Vitalis and WPC King, all of the North Central Division.
The Ministry of Health, via its Chemistry, Food and Drugs Division, is advising of a voluntary recall notice for several types of Merba cookies. A food alert notification was issued by the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) after small metal pieces were found in the products, produced during the period of 7th December, 2023 to 15th December, 2023.
The metal particles vary in size and consist of thin and long pieces. According to the manufacturer, MERBA B.V., the contamination was due to a broken agitator in a bakery fat storage tank. The tank was taken out of production. The consumption of these contaminated products poses a serious risk to one's health.
The Ministry is advising that the products have been imported and are sold locally. Therefore, the Ministry is urging persons who may be in possession of these recalled products to discontinue use immediately and to return the products to the place of purchase where possible.

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers in Barrackpore of an unplanned water interruption today (Thursday 29th February, 2024), due to repairs to a leaking 200mm pipeline at Wilson Road, Barrackpore.

Safety and security measures implemented in Port-of-Spain for the arrival of cruise ship passengers were instrumental in the arrest of a suspect who allegedly robbed a Canadian citizen of a gold chain yesterday (Wednesday 28th February, 2024).
Reports indicate that around 11:35 AM on Wednesday, the victim and her husband, passengers of the cruise ship ‘Emerald Princess,’ were walking along Charlotte Street, Port-of-Spain, when a male suspect allegedly snatched a gold chain from around her neck. The suspect then ran along Charlotte Street onto Queen Janelle Commissiong Street. PCs Bishop and Simmons, who were on foot patrol along Charlotte Street, were alerted to the incident and gave chase. The suspect was apprehended at the corner of Queen Janelle Commissiong Street and George Street and handed over to Officers of the Central Police Station.
Investigations are ongoing.

Western Division Officers made another serious dent in the operations of drug trafficking networks, when they seized $5.5 million worth of marijuana during an anti-crime exercise conducted in St. James early this morning (Thursday 29th February, 2024).
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the seizure is part of the overall strategy by Senior Superintendent Sean Henry, to increase the attack on all forms of criminal activity in the wake of the recent murders in the Maraval district. Snr. Supt. Henry stated, “This exercise is part of ongoing and aggressive anti-crime initiatives in the Western Division, we will continue our aggressive and relentless attack on the criminals and criminality, with a view to delivering on our mandate to ensure that the Western Division remains a safe place. I will also continue to encourage and employ persons to co-operate and collaborate with us in our efforts to ensure our communities are safe.” According to Police reports, around 3:45 AM on Thursday, members of the St. James Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and personnel from the St. James Charge Room, conducted an anti-crime exercise, where the Officers proceeded to Western Main Road, St. James, in the vicinity of Clarence Street. During the exercise, the Officers intercepted a blue Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 38-year-old welder, who resides in Diego Martin. The man, identified as Collin Joseph of Roxborough Street in Diego Martin, is said to be an employee of the Port-of-Spain City Corporation. When the Officers searched the said vehicle, they found thirteen (13) bales containing compressed marijuana. The man was arrested and taken to the St. James Police Station, where the bales were weighed and totaled 334 kilogrammes (736.34 pounds), with a street value of $5.5 million.
ASP Russell co-ordinated the exercise, which was supervised by Ag. Sgt. Linton and included PC David, PC Charles as well as PC Ali and PC Joseph from the Charge Room.
Investigations are continuing.
The Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT) confirmed this morning (Thursday 29th February, 2024) that five (5) fishermen from Cedros are missing at sea since last Saturday (24th February, 2024). No further information was provided by the HSRT.
The missing men have been identified as Captain Davanand Seepaul, 35, his father David Seepaul, 60, and three (3) other Cedros residents: Shiva Seepersad, Jeremiah Pasqual and Braiyer Gonzales Ali.
According to reports, the group left Fullerton Beach, Cedros, in a boat named ‘Amanda.’ That was the last time their families heard from the men. The boat has also been reported missing.
The families reported that the men are accustomed to going out in the Gulf of Paria and know the area.

According to reports, residents of La Resource Road in the vicinity of Fromager Street, Laventille, heard a series of loud explosions around 8:10 PM. Upon investigating, they found Ashton lying on the roadway with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. Police were notified and a team of Officers responded to the scene, led by Supt. Nanoo. A District Medical Officer (DMO) also visited the scene and ordered the body to be removed. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available.
