Western Division Officers made another serious dent in the operations of drug trafficking networks, when they seized $5.5 million worth of marijuana during an anti-crime exercise conducted in St. James early this morning (Thursday 29th February, 2024).
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the seizure is part of the overall strategy by Senior Superintendent Sean Henry, to increase the attack on all forms of criminal activity in the wake of the recent murders in the Maraval district. Snr. Supt. Henry stated, “This exercise is part of ongoing and aggressive anti-crime initiatives in the Western Division, we will continue our aggressive and relentless attack on the criminals and criminality, with a view to delivering on our mandate to ensure that the Western Division remains a safe place. I will also continue to encourage and employ persons to co-operate and collaborate with us in our efforts to ensure our communities are safe.” According to Police reports, around 3:45 AM on Thursday, members of the St. James Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and personnel from the St. James Charge Room, conducted an anti-crime exercise, where the Officers proceeded to Western Main Road, St. James, in the vicinity of Clarence Street. During the exercise, the Officers intercepted a blue Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 38-year-old welder, who resides in Diego Martin. The man, identified as Collin Joseph of Roxborough Street in Diego Martin, is said to be an employee of the Port-of-Spain City Corporation. When the Officers searched the said vehicle, they found thirteen (13) bales containing compressed marijuana. The man was arrested and taken to the St. James Police Station, where the bales were weighed and totaled 334 kilogrammes (736.34 pounds), with a street value of $5.5 million.
ASP Russell co-ordinated the exercise, which was supervised by Ag. Sgt. Linton and included PC David, PC Charles as well as PC Ali and PC Joseph from the Charge Room.
