As registration began at 7am today, Friday 31st May 2019, hundreds of Venezuelan migrants turned up at several official venues to be processed. Many of them eagerly waited in line overnight with chairs and cushions. Their ultimate hope is to be approved to receive their Registration Card.
“Mass starvation” and “political upheaval” were common reasons they gave for fleeing Venezuela and coming to Trinidad in large numbers. The registration process will continue for the next two (2) weeks, ending on 14th June 2019.
