The identity of a body found floating in a river in Barrackpore last week has been confirmed to be that of a missing 49-year-old man, Kassie Rampersad, of Chester Street, Debe. The body was spotted by a villager on 24th January, 2024, who was walking along Oropouche Trace North, around 3:00 PM. The villager saw the body floating near the bridge crossing and contacted the Barrackpore Police Station.
The cause of death has not been determined due to the advanced state of decomposition of the body. Two (2) men are said to be assisting Police in their investigations. One of the men was held on Sunday (28th January, 2024), while the other was detained on Tuesday (30th January, 2024). Rampersad, who lived alone, was last seen alive on 11th January, 2024. The corpse had a missing ring finger that appeared to be an old amputation. Detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region III are investigating.
