The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) is advising citizens that all National Identification Cards issued by the Commission that have already expired, as well as those due to expire in 2020, shall be valid until 31st December 2020. The EBC notes that no action is required to be taken by the holders of such I.D Cards in order to extend their validity.
This therefore means that there is no need for citizens to rush to EBC Offices to renew their expired I.D Cards in order to be able to cast their votes in the upcoming General Election, which is starting to heat up. See the Public Notice from the EBC below for further information.

Former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday is back in the political arena after joining his daughter Mickela's Patriotic Front (PF) party as its new Campaign Manager. The party will contest all 41 seats in this year’s General Election. The announcements were made by the party’s political leader, Mickela Panday, at a Press Conference at the party's office in Chaguanas on Thursday (25th June 2020). Aside from being this country’s former Prime Minister, Basdeo Panday was also an Opposition Leader, Trade Union Leader and a Lawyer. Speaking about her father at the Press Conference, Mickela said: His role at this moment is, he is the campaign manager. Mickela also said her father is "not dictating the pace" in the PF, noting "The wonderful thing about it is, he allows us the option and opportunity to choose at the end of the day." She added that Basdeo Panday has a team of people from his 1995-2001 Government who are also helping.
It’s been a long journey for the PF party to get to this point, as Mickela pointed out that it took almost a year to open the party’s bank account and they don’t currently have any financiers. The party intends to be fully transparent regarding its finances in the future. Apart from Basdeo Panday’s presence at the Press Conference on Thursday, also in attendance was former T&T National Footballer Kenwyne Jones. Mickela said, "He is part of our team." She added that Jones' role would be announced later. There has already been talk that the PF party will be essentially splitting the vote at the upcoming General Election. However, Mickela believes a vote for the PF is neither a wasted vote nor one that will will split another party's votes. She said at the Press Conference that statistics from the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) and the Central Statistical Office (CSO) show that less than half of the electorate votes for the PNM and the UNC. The party will therefore target the electorate that neither wants a PNM nor a UNC Government. While the PF has spoken with other political parties, its leader said, "We will not be joining with anybody for joining sake." She said the time for this was past and political coalitions had failed. She said that if people are voting for one party because it is less corrupt than another, they are still "voting for corruption." The PF party will soon disclose its plans to deal with several national issues. [Source] According to a weather update this evening (Thursday 25th June 2020) from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), an increase in cloudiness, accompanied by occasional showers and gusty winds, is expected as the moisture observed in the satellite image above will move across the region this evening into tonight. There is also a low chance that these showers may become heavy at times. Trinidad and Tobago is currently experiencing partly cloudy and breezy conditions. As for the pesky Saharan dust, the Met Office notes that although there has been a decrease in concentration, it still remains present in our atmosphere in moderate amounts (lower than previous days). The current decrease is due to the higher moisture content associated with the Tropical Wave expected to pass the islands later tonight. Visibility is currently down to 8 Km over the Northern Range and the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) at 11:56am this morning indicated an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 86 (Rated - Moderate) at Point Lisas, Trinidad and 96 (Rated – Moderate) at Signal Hill, Tobago. Model data suggests that dust concentrations will again increase overnight to possibly unhealthy levels as another Saharan dust surge moves into our area. The TTMS continues to ask that persons with respiratory illnesses take the necessary precautions.
Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, has signed the updated Public Health Regulations (No. 20), which goes into effect from today, Thursday 25th June 2020 until Tuesday 30th June 2020.
One of the changes in the updated Regulations now specifies an opening time of 8am for bars and casinos, where the previous Regulations only specified a 10pm closing time. Some of these establishments were therefore using that as a loophole to close at 10pm but then re-open at Midnight. The new Regulations puts an end to that as they can now only re-open from 8am. A person who contravenes any section of the Public Health Regulations commits an offense and is liable on summary conviction to a Fine of TT $50,000 and imprisonment for a term of six (6) months. See the updated Public Health Regulations (No. 20) below for further details.
