As of Monday morning (29th June 2020), more than 10.1 Million people have been infected with COVID-19 around the world. In the past few days, the crisis has deepened in the United States, where only two (2) States, Connecticut and Rhode Island, have recorded a recent decline in cases.
Meanwhile, more than 500,000 people have been killed by the disease globally - a quarter of them are Americans. This marks another bleak milestone in the Pandemic. The latest death toll stands at more than 502,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University (JHU), as cases continue to soar and outbreaks pop up in countries across the world. The United States has the highest confirmed fatality count, having recorded at least 125,800 deaths, according to JHU. A rise in cases was reported across a staggering 36 U.S States last week. Officials recorded 9,585 new cases on Saturday in Florida, a single-day record since the start of the Pandemic. On Sunday the State reported another 8,530 new cases. Weeks after many US states began reopening after lockdown, at least a dozen have halted their plans to further ease restrictions. Other countries which had begun to emerge from lockdown are also struggling as Officials grapple with local outbreaks. In China, around 400,000 people in Anxin County near Beijing have been placed under lockdown measures after a small increase in cases in the area. Elsewhere, India has recorded more than 100,000 new COVID-19 infections in the past six (6) days as cases surge across the country. Fears are mounting over the situation in Delhi where Hospitals are struggling with a shortage of medics and beds for patients. In Australia, authorities are trying to contain an outbreak in Victoria State. Health Officials recorded 75 positive results on Sunday, the State's largest single-daily increase in cases since 30th March 2020. In England, there is a reported cluster in the city of Leicester. A lawmaker representing the area has called for a local lockdown in the city. Authorities have recorded 866 COVID-19 cases over the past two (2) weeks. Cases also continue to rise in Latin America, one of the key drivers behind the record rise in global cases over the past several weeks. Brazil reported 30,476 new cases in 24 hours on Sunday. The country has recorded more than 1.3 Million cases, yet re-opening continues in cities including Rio de Janeiro. In Mexico, another 4,050 new cases were reported Sunday. Mexico has the 7th highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the world, behind Spain. Both Colombia and Peru also reported surging cases. Colombia's case tally is now at 91,995, and on Sunday officials recorded 167 new deaths, the highest daily death toll reported by the country since the beginning of June.

Following threats to bar owners from both the Prime Minister and Minister of Health over this weekend, the Minister of National Security has just announced that all bars will now be restricted to operate from 8am to 8pm daily, instead of 10pm. The Public Health Regulations will be updated to reflect these changes.
Minister of National Security, Stuart Young, made the announcement at this morning’s Press Conference held by the Ministry of Health. Minister Young noted that this is just a first warning to bar owners and patrons and if persons continue to disregard public health guidelines, stricter measures will be implemented - including the re-closing of all bars. Minister Young also reminded these bar owners that there are not supposed to be more than 25 persons gathering inside or outside of these establishments. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) as well as the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force (TTDF) will be involved in ensuring that the law is being adhered to. If you are found inside a bar after 8pm from tonight, you will be charged.
