The Ministry of Health held a virtual Press Conference at 11am this morning (Wednesday 24th June 2020) to update the public on the latest developments with COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. Below are the key points discussed today: - Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, gave a clinical update on the status of COVID-19 in T&T. The numbers are as follows:
- Minister Deyalsingh indicated that the 295 persons quarantined on the Enchantment of the Seas Cruise Ship are supposed to end their quarantine on Saturday but were unable to receive their swabs yesterday due to protests at the Port. He said that the CMO along with Dr. Maryam Richards are currently in talks with Port Officials, in an attempt to have the swabs done so that the quarantined T&T Nationals can be given the all-clear. - The Minister of Health stated that his Ministry has not yet been asked to provide any technical advice with regards to Carnival 2021. - The Minister of Communications, Donna Cox, went on to say that contrary to media reports, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago has NOT made a final decision with regards to hosting Carnival 2021. - Minister Deyalsingh clarified that all retail stores and supermarkets are allowed to open up to 10pm now.
