In a Media Release issued on Friday (26th March 2021), Caribbean Airlines said it is keeping abreast of innovations and services to facilitate a safe travel environment for its customers. Now, persons traveling with the airline have the added convenience of booking and paying for COVID-19 tests via the airline's website, up to (7) seven days in advance but no less than forty-eight (48) hours prior to their flight departure date.
The Media Release notes that in partnership with Ink Aviation, the airline can facilitate COVID-19 test bookings for its customers, using a new integrated Passenger COVID-19 Test Booking Portal. “The portal makes booking appointments and paying for tests easy and convenient. The platform integrates with multiple stakeholders, including medical establishments, airlines, airports and Governments, to securely validate and share passenger health credentials, such as test results and vaccines. This enables the passenger journey to be simple, fast and safe, with all steps connected together.” Caribbean Airlines Chief Operations Officer, Steve Azevedo noted, "This is a major step for Caribbean Airlines to support countries to safely re-open their borders while preventing the importation of COVID-19 cases. The platform is compatible with all digital and paper COVID-19 test certificates including results from RT-PCR, LAMP and Antigen tests.” Mr. Azevdo continued, "The innovative solution allows passengers to verify their health credentials using several identification options. And it works seamlessly with any Departure Control System (DCS), immigration systems and all self-sovereign digital health passports. In addition, an in-built declaration form digitizes and unifies the travel details submitted by the passenger with Advanced Passenger Information (APIS)" Using the Passenger COVID-19 Test Booking Portal caribbeanairlines.health.ink customers can input their booking reference code, and a list of approved testing labs along with available appointment dates and times will appear for selection. The link will only display approved testing labs in the country from which the customer's flight originates. Payment is required immediately after securing the appointment with the selected lab. The cost of the test will vary based on the country and lab facilitating the test. Customers are advised to choose appointment dates that align with the specific entry protocols for the destination to which they are travelling. For example, some countries require that PCR tests be done within seventy-two (72) hours of travel, while others accept PCR tests done within seven (7) days of travel. Passengers may verify the specific entry requirements and other important travel information for their intended destination using the Caribbean Airlines Sherpa Tool at travelguidelines.caribbeanairlines.com. Additionally, upon completion of their test appointment, customers will be invited to download the Ink Mobile App (Tento Wallet) via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. This app will act as a digital health passport, providing a touchless experience, where the labs can securely upload customer's test results, which can be presented at the airport when checking-in. Caribbean Airlines will verify the results via the QR code from the Ink Mobile App downloaded on their smartphone. Caribbean Airlines said it continues to work with stakeholders to ensure a safe environment for its customers and employees. Since Sunday (21st March 2021), there have been eighty-five (85) reported cases of COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago - in just five (5) days. This new increase in cases does not bode well for Government’s plan to allow Standard 5 students to return to schools on 12th April 2021. One of the key stipulations made by the Government for Phase 2 of the re-opening of schools in April, was that cases had to remain low in order for this to happen. The plan was to have Standard 5 students return to schools in order for them to prepare for the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) Exam, currently scheduled for 10th June 2021. Due to this developing situation, the Ministry of Education is now set to meet with the Ministry of Health next week to discuss the re-opening of schools. This was revealed by Minister of Education, Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, in response to an inquiry from Loop News on whether things were on track for the next phase of the physical return to schools. Gadsby-Dolly indicated that the discussions between the Ministries would revolve around the latest spike in COVID-19 infections and whether any change in plans and protocols would be necessary. Forms 4 - 6 students returned to schools in February during Phase 1 of the planned re-opening, which resulted in one (1) COVID-19 case being reported at the Mason Hall Secondary School in Tobago. If cases continue to dramatically rise in T&T, Standard 5 students will not return to schools in April and Forms 4 - 6 students may also be sent home. A 28-year-old Malabar man appeared virtually at the Arima Magistrates’ Court earlier today (Thursday 25th March 2021), having been charged with murder. Andrew Sutton was charged yesterday with the murder of businessman Nicholas Mohith, following the advice of Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms. Joan Honore-Paul.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 4pm on Thursday 11th March 2021, a businessman and his son, Nicholas Mohith, 31, were at their business place, located at the Eastern Main Road, Arouca, when they were allegedly approached by a man with a firearm. The assailant allegedly pointed the firearm in Nicholas’ direction and a loud explosion was heard. Nicholas’ father then pushed a table at the assailant, who ran out of the premises. The businessman chased after the assailant, however, the assailant escaped. The man then returned to his business place and observed his son, Nicholas, with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Nicholas was conveyed to the Arima Hospital and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries. Sutton was later arrested and charged. With the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, is advising both the Christian and the Shouter Baptist communities to ensure that they adhere to the Public Health Regulations with their upcoming events next week.
The Spiritual Shouter Baptist Liberation Day will be celebrated on 30th March 2021, while the Christian community will commemorate Easter celebrations beginning with the Good Friday processions on 2nd April 2021. A Media Release issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Thursday (25th March 2021) said that Commissioner Griffith is asking the organisers to be more innovative, and instead of gathering in their hundreds, to have virtual events, including the Stations of the Cross processions. The CoP says that every year, thousands participate in Shouter Baptist Day celebrations and the Easter vigils. He added, “But we are not in normal times. This month marked one year since the virus has been with us. So far, 141 persons have died as a result of the virus and thousands were affected. The borders have been closed and there are restrictions in place to protect the country. We have noticed over the past year, some events with large gatherings caused a spike in cases. The TTPS has been on the front line ensuring that people observe the restrictions and adhere to the protocols. I know these upcoming events always attracted thousands of people, but this time, we have to be careful. I am asking the organisers of these events to ensure that their followers do the right thing.” The CoP said that in recent weeks, he had been very accommodating to persons and groups who requested permission to hold vigils, protests, meetings, and marches. Commissioner Griffith said he agreed to grant permission across the board because of the issues highlighted across the country, and more particular, in light of the recent deaths of several women. But the CoP said he noted with concern that some of these requests for gatherings turned out to be in contravention of the Public Health Regulations, Section 3 (1), which states, that a person shall not, without reasonable justification be found at any public place where the number of persons gathered, at any time, exceeds ten (10). The Media Release also said that Commissioner Griffith noticed recent gatherings accounted for hundreds of persons even though the organisers of these events tried their very best to control the crowd which had gathered. As a result, the CoP says he would not be entertaining any requests at this time to hold vigils and marches. |
