A 28-year-old Malabar man appeared virtually at the Arima Magistrates’ Court earlier today (Thursday 25th March 2021), having been charged with murder. Andrew Sutton was charged yesterday with the murder of businessman Nicholas Mohith, following the advice of Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms. Joan Honore-Paul.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 4pm on Thursday 11th March 2021, a businessman and his son, Nicholas Mohith, 31, were at their business place, located at the Eastern Main Road, Arouca, when they were allegedly approached by a man with a firearm. The assailant allegedly pointed the firearm in Nicholas’ direction and a loud explosion was heard. Nicholas’ father then pushed a table at the assailant, who ran out of the premises. The businessman chased after the assailant, however, the assailant escaped. The man then returned to his business place and observed his son, Nicholas, with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Nicholas was conveyed to the Arima Hospital and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries. Sutton was later arrested and charged.
