A man and a woman are dead following a road traffic accident along the Claude Noel Highway in Tobago early this morning (Sunday 14th January, 2024), making this the first two (2) road fatalities for 2024 on the island. The deceased have been identified as Kareem Thom, a Sunshine Snacks truck driver and Sherma Thomas, an employee of the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA). According to reports, Thom and Thomas, along with two (2) other occupants — one of them a baby — were heading East along the Claude Noel Highway in a white Nissan Tiida, just after Midnight, when Thom lost control of the car. The vehicle hit a railing before wrapping around a large tree just off the road. A social media video showed that Thom was thrown several feet away from the car, landing in a bushy area. Both Thom and Thomas succumbed to their injuries shortly after the horrific crash. The other occupants of the car were transported to the Scarborough General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

A man is dead after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Courts MegaStore early this morning (Thursday 4th January, 2024).
According to reports, the man was attempting to cross the Eastbound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway around 5:50 AM, when he was struck by a Hyundai Tucson. The driver pulled over to the shoulder, but before he could render any assistance, the victim was struck by a Toyota Aqua. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries as a result and died on the scene. The accident caused a major traffic pileup on both lanes of the Highway.
Pedestrians are urged to utilize walkovers and not attempt to cross major Highways, “as it is very dangerous due to the speed of the vehicles and visibility of motorists,” according to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle (PDC 1404), identified as Ameil Boodoo of Bellamy Street, Cocorite Road, Arima, was liming with the child’s father, Wyatt Stephen, and others at River Road, Arima, when he decided to head home, around 9:25 PM. After having a conversation with Wyatt, Boodoo attempted to drive off. However, he reportedly felt like he hit something. When the men checked, they realized the toddler had been run over by his vehicle. The driver grabbed the child and along with her father, rushed to the Arima Hospital where she was declared dead. [Source: CNC3] A man is dead following a road traffic accident along the Diego Martin Highway on Christmas Day, Monday 25th December 2023. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Kareem Abdul of Patna Village, Diego Martin. According to reports, Abdul was driving a purple vehicle (PCU 673) around 4:00 PM, heading Northbound along the Diego Martin Highway, when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road in the vicinity of Powder Magazine Phase 2 Walkover. Abdul succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

According to reports, the man was struck by a white Nissan Almera along the Highway near Mount Hope, around 9:30 PM. The victim was thrown approximately 200 meters and his body dismembered after several other vehicles drove over him. Police were notified and Officers of the St. Joseph Police Station are said to be carrying out investigations into the tragic incident. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Ian Alleyne] The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS) said it wishes to inform the public that around 9:40 AM on Thursday (14th December 2023), while Chief Fire Officer Bristo was proceeding West on the Priority Bus Route (PBR), a pedestrian was struck by a motorcycle.
In a Media Release on Thursday, the TTFS said, “This incident occurred near the San Juan Promenade as the pedestrian was crossing the intersection. After witnessing the unfortunate accident, Chief Fire Officer Bristo stopped to provide assistance to the victim and ensured that he was taken to the Emergency Room.” The TTFS said it is aware that there are “contrary versions” of Thursday's events being circulated, “but they do not represent the facts of this incident.” In particular, a video shared on social media, showing the pedestrian lying on the roadway moments after the incident, implied that the Chief Fire Officer was responsible. The TTFS added that it wishes the victim a speedy recovery. More on this as it becomes available. A 12-year-old boy is currently hospitalized after being struck by a Police car while riding his bicycle in Tunapuna on Wednesday afternoon (13th December 2023).
According to reports, the boy was riding his bike along the Eastern Main Road, heading West, around 12:30 PM, when he was knocked down by a marked Police vehicle attempting to enter the compound of the Tunapuna Police Station. A man narrowly escaped with his life on Wednesday morning (6th December 2023) after a flatbed trailer collided with his blue Toyota Hilux in the vicinity of Tembladora, along the Western Main Road in Chaguaramas.
The driver of the Hilux, identified as 45-year-old Lee Osborne Gore, had to be rescued by Fire Officers who used the jaws of life to free him from the mangled wreck. The flatbed trailer was driven by a 30-year-old man of Harmony Hall, Gasparillo.
According to reports, an ambulance belonging to the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) responded to the crash around 11:00 AM, and Gore was rushed to the St. James Infirmary, where he was treated for minor lacerations to the right shoulder.
The wreckage is said to have remained on the roadway up to 1:30 PM on Wednesday, as motorists slowed to take pictures and record videos. As the recordings of the accident began circulating across social media, members of the public questioned if the extra long trailer carrying a heavy load had been provided with a Police escort and if not, why? A man is dead and another injured following a road traffic accident along the new Point Fortin Highway early this morning (Sunday 26th November 2023). The deceased has been identified as 96.1FM's DJ, 56-year-old Clyde Jemmot, aka ‘Clyde The Outlaw.’
Another passenger in the vehicle, identified as 35-year-old Johan Redhead of Next 99.1FM, is currently being observed at Hospital.
According to reports, the vehicle was traveling Eastbound on the new Archibald-De Leon Highway, when it slammed into a light-pole and flipped over near the Guapo roundabout, around 4:30 AM. The men were rushed to the Point Fortin Hospital. Watch video from the scene of the tragic accident below.

A motorcyclist is dead following an accident on Friday afternoon (17th November 2023) in the vicinity of Wallerfield. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Kervyn Walcott of Ramdhanie Street, St. Margaret’s, Claxton Bay. He was killed when a pickup crashed into him around 4:30 PM.
According to reports, A 74-year-old man from Wallerfield was driving a Ford Ranger, headed in an Easterly direction along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, Wallerfield, when he attempted to make a right turn onto Old Agua Santa Road. The pickup, however, collided with Walcott.
Walcott was taken to the Arima Hospital where he died around 6:17 PM while undergoing medical treatment.
Police said “extensive damage” was done to Walcott’s motorcycle, while the Ranger sustained damages to the left rear door and fender, left running-board and undercarriage. Investigations are continuing into the tragic accident. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: CNC3] |
