A man and a woman are dead following a road traffic accident along the Claude Noel Highway in Tobago early this morning (Sunday 14th January, 2024), making this the first two (2) road fatalities for 2024 on the island. The deceased have been identified as Kareem Thom, a Sunshine Snacks truck driver and Sherma Thomas, an employee of the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA). According to reports, Thom and Thomas, along with two (2) other occupants — one of them a baby — were heading East along the Claude Noel Highway in a white Nissan Tiida, just after Midnight, when Thom lost control of the car. The vehicle hit a railing before wrapping around a large tree just off the road. A social media video showed that Thom was thrown several feet away from the car, landing in a bushy area. Both Thom and Thomas succumbed to their injuries shortly after the horrific crash. The other occupants of the car were transported to the Scarborough General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
