UPDATE (08/01/20): President Trump said in an address to the nation from the White House on Wednesday that the U.S will "immediately impose additional punishing economic sanctions" against Iran. He also said he would ask NATO allies to become "much more involved" in the Middle East.
I'm pleased to inform you, the American people should be extremely grateful and happy. No Americans were harmed in last night's attack by the Iranian regime. We suffered no casualties, all of our soldiers are safe and only minimal damage was sustained at our military bases.
UPDATE 2: Members of Congress said Tuesday night that they were praying for U.S military forces overseas and that they were monitoring developments following news that Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles at U.S forces in Iraq.
UPDATE: Iran has started a second round of attacks against Bases holding U.S Troops in Iraq. The second round of attacks started an hour after the first phase took place, according to the Tasnim News Agency in Tehran.
Iran launched more than a dozen missiles at two (2) Iraqi Bases that hold U.S Troops on Tuesday evening (7th January 2020) in what appears to be retaliation for the U.S airstrike that killed a top Iranian General, Qasem Soleimani, in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad last week. Tehran had vowed revenge for the killing, which it says was an "act of war" and "state terrorism."
U.S President Donald Trump said he will be making a statement on Wednesday 8th December 2020 concerning the attacks.
White House Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham, confirmed on Tuesday that Trump was briefed on the reports of rocket attacks at the Bases.
We are aware of the reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq. The President has been briefed and is monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team.
There have been no confirmed reports of U.S casualties but an assessment is taking place. U.S Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army General Mark Milley arrived at the White House following the attack.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) released a statement in which it referred to the U.S as “the Great Satan.” To the Great Satan ... we warn that if you repeat your wickedness or take any additional movements or make additional aggression, we will respond with more painful and crushing responses.
The IRGC also warned that any country housing U.S Troops could be subject to "hostile and aggressive acts.”
This latest attack on U.S Troops in Iraq represents a test for Trump going forward as he previously warned Iran about any retaliation against U.S interests.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was discussing the situation in Iran when she was handed a note with news of the attack.
