UPDATE (28/09/23): Stolen Productions Limited (SPL) has rubbished allegations made by Mileidy Materano, who announced on Wednesday that she was giving up her crown due to sponsorship issues. Speaking to the media this morning (Thursday 28th September 2023), SPL’s Head of Marketing and Public Relations, Kerry Goberdhan, clarified that the company is sponsoring the delegates. First runner-up, Rebekah Hislop, will travel to Vietnam next month to represent T&T, as the crown has now been passed on to her. Following the ongoing outcry, controversy and even death threats, Venezuelan National Mileidy Materano has decided to step down as the representative for Trinidad and Tobago at the Miss Grand International pageant in Vietnam in October. This was confirmed today (Wednesday 27th September 2023) during a Press Conference with Materano’s Attorneys.
According to her Attorneys, including Wayne Sturge, Materano's Manager was only informed by the pageant holder, Stolen Productions Limited, seventy-two (72) hours ago, that the she would need to fund herself for the international leg of the pageant. Failing which, the crown would be passed to the first runner-up, Miss St. Joseph — Rebecca Hislop. As such, Materano took the decision to relinquish her title. Materano‘s victory at Miss Grand T&T pageant on 10th September 2023 caused an uproar, with many taking to social media to question her eligibility and criticize the judges’ decision.
