The Ministry of Health said it “hails the successful establishment” of the first two (2) mass vaccination sites for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccines in Trinidad and Tobago. In a Media Release on Saturday (24th April 2021), the Ministry stated that the vaccination sites at the Paddock, Queen’s Park Savannah and the National Racquet Centre of Trinidad and Tobago in Tacarigua, began operations on 22nd April 2021 and provide increased COVID-19 vaccine access for members of the public. These vaccination sites have been added to the twenty-four (24) existing Designated COVID-19 Vaccination Health Facilities. On the first day of operations, 346 persons were vaccinated at the Tacangua site from 9am to 6pm using six (6) vaccination stations. At the Paddock, Queen's Park Savannah, 716 persons with existing appointments received the vaccine. The site operated with twelve (12) vaccination stations from 8am to 4pm. On the second day of operations (23rd April 2021) the Ministry said the number of persons vaccinated in these mass vaccination locations increased. 505 persons were vaccinated in Tacarigua and 1,216 persons were vaccinated at the Queen’s Park Savannah location. In order to address any adverse event that may occur, the Ministry noted that the required arrangements have been put in place at both locations. These include the following:
Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, commented, “this initiative has once again demonstrated the capacity and resilience of the Trinidad and Tobago healthcare system. It has proved to be a great learning experience for us and the lessons learned will be utilised when other mass vaccination sites are introduced throughout the country in the upcoming months.”
The Ministry of Health thanked the public for their “faith and trust in the vaccine (especially those who have been vaccinated), the dedicated public healthcare workers, the Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association, the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association and all other volunteers who have contributed.” We are a small operation.
