An active area of low pressure near the Central Tropical Atlantic, East of the Southern Windwards, has formed into Tropical Depression Thirteen. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) notes that at 11:00 AM today (Tuesday 5th September 2023), the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami upgraded the system to Tropical Depression status and the system is forecast to become a major Hurricane by this weekend.
According to the NHC, “The Depression is forecast to become a major Hurricane by this weekend and could bring impacts to the Leeward Islands by that time. While it is too soon to determine the location and magnitude of these possible impacts, interests in this area should monitor the progress of the Depression and updates to the forecast.” The Met Office said the centre of the system is initially projected to track Northwestward and veer North of the Eastern Caribbean islands later this week, but could impact the Leewards. THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO ALERTS, WATCHES OR WARNINGS IN EFFECT FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. The TTMS said it continues to monitor this area of low pressure and will issue an update at 8:30 AM tomorrow (Wednesday 6th September 2023) or earlier, as significant development progresses.
