The Management of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago said the fire onboard the M.V. Cabo Star, following its departure from the Port of Scarborough at 11:23 PM on Wednesday (23rd August 2023), originated in the Engine Room, and was isolated and extinguished by crew in accordance with vessel emergency protocols.
No injuries were reported onboard the vessel and all passengers and crew were evacuated when it was safe to do so. The Port Authority said on Thursday (24th August 2023) that the extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained, and will be the subject of a thorough investigation. The management and staff of the Port Authority said it regrets any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident. In these circumstances, the operations of the M.V. Cabo Star was disrupted on Thursday, until further notice. However, there was no interruption to the inter-Island passenger ferry service and this service remains as scheduled.
