The Ministry of Works and Transport commenced permanent works on the Manzanilla Road today (Friday 28th July 2023). The project entails reconstruction of the collapsed road spanning approximately 1.6 Km within the 5 Km segment of the roadway, along the Manzanilla Mayaro Road. Construction is expected to be completed in five (5) months. According to the Ministry, the project will include the following:
Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, said the project was divided into five (5) packages — three (3) of which has already been awarded, and will cost a total of $70 million. Minister Sinanan is promising that the 10 Km of roadway will involve the construction of several culverts, which will prevent the back-flow of water from the sea during a storm surge event. This, he said, will prevent damage to the roadway as has happened in the past. The Ministry said the public can look out for more information on the roll-out of this project in the upcoming weeks.
