In a statement on Tuesday (25th May 2021), Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said, “Keith Rowley must stop his depraved blame games and work with all stakeholders to fight this COVID-19 crisis. It is clear he and his Government can't do their jobs!” The Opposition Leader was responding to the Prime Minister casting blame recently in Parliament, on the citizens who attended the Andrea Bharatt vigils, for the current COVID-19 crisis. Mrs. Persad-Bissessar noted this was “an act of wickedness.” Bharatt’s body was discovered on 4th February 2021 and her funeral took place on 12th February 2021. During that period there were nationwide vigils demanding the Government treat with the safety and protection of women. Mrs. Persad-Bissessar further stated, “What manner of evil mind will pray on Sunday and then on Monday blame vigils for the brutal murders of innocent citizens to distract from the fact that his Government has failed and has no plan to deal with this Pandemic? This is a depraved act of deception and deflection by Keith Rowley. The blame is clearly bolted to the chest of Rowley and his Government!!” The Opposition Leader said it is “lunacy that Rowley is linking the Covid upsurge to vigils held three (3) months ago!” See her full statement below: THE OPPOSITION CONDEMS PRIME MINISTER's STATEMENT ON ANDREA BHARATT VIGILS We are a small operation.
