Prime Minister Keith Rowley called on everyone except essential workers to stay at home unless they had to go out. The Prime Minister emphasized that this is not a “State of Emergency,” but said this ban could be enforced under existing legislation. This new “deeper separation” measure will go into effect at Midnight on Sunday 29th March 2020 and last until 15th April 2020, provided it is not extended before then.
The Ministers of Health and National Security will provide a list of what are deemed as "essential activities" by Friday 27th March 2020. Prime Minister Rowley noted that medical personnel, people in the public utilities and social services were essential, as well as banking services. The airport and seaport have to stay open because our food has to come in. There is a huge chunk of the country that still has to function as a response to the virus.
Prime Minister Rowley appealed to all citizens to be responsible, saying this is the only way to save lives.
