A 63-year-old man was shot by a Police Officer on Wednesday night (27th April 2022) after the man drove over the Officer’s foot while attempting to escape a roadblock exercise. The incident took place around 11:30pm along the Solomon Hochoy Highway.
According to Police, they were conducting routine patrols when they attempted to stop a gold Toyota NZE, driven by the suspect in the vicinity of Union Road, Marabella. However, instead of stopping, the man drove away. Officers gave chase and called for backup, and a roadblock was set up in the vicinity of the Freeport Flyover, which forced the driver to slow down. As Officers approached the car, the 63-year-old man attempted to drive off again, rolling over an Officer’s foot. Fearful for his life, the Officer shot at the driver, hitting him in his abdomen. The man’s car veered off the road and stopped a short distance away. Both the driver and the Officer were taken for medical treatment at the Chaguanas Health Centre. The Officer was treated for his injury and discharged, however, the 63-year-old man, who is from Gasparillo, was transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope for further treatment. His condition is listed as critical. Investigations are ongoing into this incident. [Source: Loop] We are a small operation.
