UPDATE 4: The two (2) women who were in the car were able to walk away from the crash and were seen sitting on a patch of grass, a short distance away from where the accident occurred. They were later taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mount Hope, where they were treated for minor injuries and then discharged.
UPDATE 3: Police said that while Alleyne was on his way to Piarco International Airport, near UWI, he struck the barrier that divides the East and Westbound lanes of the Highway. He struck the barrier on the driver’s side. As a result, Alleyne sustained the worst of the injuries, with a major skull fracture and his right arm was totally severed.
Police noted that there were no brake impressions anywhere near the point of impact, which led them to speculate that neither Alleyne nor his two (2) passengers may have been aware of what was going on until it was too late.
UPDATE 2: Police have speculated that Alleyne may have fallen asleep at the wheel of his Jaguar sedan, which slammed into a concrete barrier, killing him almost instantly, while sparing the lives of two (2) women who were with him in the vehicle.
UPDATE: Police Road Safety Co-ordinator Constable Brent Batson said Alleyne had two (2) passengers in his vehicle and they were heading to Piarco Airport for a flight to Tobago. Alleyne lost control of the vehicle, hit the traffic light pole and died upon impact. The two (2) passengers survived and were taken to seek medical treatment.
Constable Batson added, “We are asking persons to please, take their time on the road as these are the consequences, sometimes often unintended (sic), and we are going into the New Year festivities as well and we’re really hoping to see persons support our road safety to prevent these types of tragedies from occurring.”
