The results of a nationwide poll was published on Sunday (26th July 2020) which showed the People’s National Movement (PNM) was ahead of the United National Congress (UNC) by 6 percentage points, two (2) weeks before the General Election on 10th August 2020. The poll was commissioned by Guardian Media Limited (GML) and conducted by HHB and Associates Limited. According to the poll results, 35% voted in support of the PNM while 29% supported the UNC. Only a mere 2% voted for other parties. 16% indicated they are still undecided and 11% indicated they would not vote at all in this General Election.
HHB and Associates Managing Director, Louis Bertrand, said based on the poll results, new political parties had not influenced the voting population. Both the PNM and UNC has since responded to the poll results, with each party expressing their satisfaction. Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, made the following brief comment regarding the poll results: The poll shows that the PNM will win, and that’s how the party feels. Meanwhile, UNC Political Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, had much more to say about the poll results on Sunday while attending the San Fernando West women’s luncheon at Achievors Banquet Hall in San Fernando: (The poll) says the PNM is barely ahead. Let me tell you that this poll was done two weeks ago but if it was done now it would show a different result. [Source]
