Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Faris-Al-Rawi, hosted a Press Conference at 11am this morning (Tuesday 28th June 2022) to discuss disaster preparedness plans for the country, in light of the impending passage of Potential Tropical Cyclone Two. Below are the key points discussed today, courtesy of TTT Live Online: - Minister Al-Rawi, in providing an update, stated that all fourteen (14) Corporations have been put on emergency alert and their Disaster Management Units (DMUs) have been fully stocked and are ready. 712 Municipal Police Officers have also been assembled. - Minister Al-Rawi announced that persons who believe their vehicles are at risk, can park their assets at the following venues: Brian Lara Stadium, UDECOTT Parkade, all Community Centres, SAPA, NAPA and Naparima Bowl. These sites will be supervised by Municipal Police Officers. - Minister Al-Rawi stated that all relief shelters have been activated and are open to the public. - Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, announced that the Water Taxi service will be operational until 2pm today. - Minister Sinanan stated that the bus route is under consideration to be opened to the public, depending on the situation, but it is not an expected outcome. - The Met Office announced that the predicted time for the onset of Tropical Storm conditions has been moved up to 6pm tonight and stated that when the system reaches T&T, wind gusts can be in excess of 70 Km/h with flash and riverine flooding expected.
