Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, is calling on Prime Minister Keith Rowley to completely re-open the country by next week as citizens and businesses are suffering under the current COVID-19 restrictions. Her plea to the Prime Minister comes as the country is quickly approaching one (1) month since the last recorded positive case of COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. The hunger crisis, mass unemployment, loss of incomes and threats of homelessness and impoverishment for so many citizens that has ensued is a shocking wake up call. Persad-Bissessar notes that today’s long overdue re-opening of the manufacturing sector is still highly insufficient. She believes the severe economic fallout faced by many small and medium term businesses during the Government’s prolonged national shutdown has considerably endangered T&T’s overall economic viability. See Persad-Bissessar’s full statement below, dated Tuesday 26th May 2020: THE DEADLINE TO ACCOUNT TO CITIZENS ON THE ‘ROADMAP TO RECOVERY’ TEAM HAS REACHED, MR PRIME MINISTER.
