The Ministry of Health held a virtual Press Conference at 11am this morning (Wednesday 21st October 2020) to update the public on the latest developments with COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. Below are the key points discussed today: - Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, provided data on the timeline of acute viral illnesses this year. The data shows that there has been a gradual decrease in the incidence of viral illness in recent times and Dr. Parasram indicated that the current levels are quite low and manageable. - General Manager for Primary Care Services at the NCRHA, Dr. Abdul Hamid, shared information on the Ministry of Health’s Telemedicine Initiative. Dr. Hamid stated that primary care doctors will call patients prior to their clinic dates to identify those with compromised immune systems and uncontrollable diabetes and conduct extensive counselling with these persons to ensure that they do not have to physically come in to the clinic. These at-risk patients have their prescriptions automatically renewed and their relatives or designated persons can collect the pre-packaged medication in their stead. - Dr. Hamid also indicated that in the last five (5) weeks, over 5,000 patients have benefited from Telemedicine consults from the NCRHA’s primary healthcare and that compliance when it comes to collecting medicine has also seen an increase due to this initiative.
