UPDATE: The Ministry of Health has confirmed the news about T&T’s first COVID-19 death in a Media Release. Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has announced in a Media Release on Wednesday 25th March 2020 that a patient who tested positive for COVID-19, has died at the Couva Hospital. Persad-Bissesser called for a lockdown of the country for fourteen (14) days. Persad-Bissessar told Guardian Media that she was able to confirm the death but did not give any further details. Meanwhile, National Security Minister Stuart Young said that the Ministry of Health is the official source of communication for the Government. Upon leaving the House of Representatives during a sitting tonight, Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh was asked for confirmation by reporters but he declined to comment. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Roshan Parasram, also did not return calls or reply to messages. However, a senior member of the Regional Health Authority confirmed the death to CNC3.
