In an update this morning (Monday 24th January 2022), the Ministry of Finance states that the deadline for the return of Valuation Forms for property tax is currently still on 31st January 2022. It has not been further extended at this time. The deadline applies to all persons in possession of residential, commercial or agricultural land or any combination.
Pursuant to Secion 29 of the Valuation of Land Act, anyone in possession of such is required to submit a Valuation Form containing the particulars, for which the previous deadline was extended from 30th November 2021 to 31st January 2022. Under Section 32 of the Valuation of Land Act, failure to comply with this requirement constitutes a criminal offence which is punishable by a fine of $5,000.
Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, said in Parliament earlier this month that the Ministry's Valuation Division had not yet received the required 200,000 Valuation Forms to proceed with the implementation of property tax. As of 24th November 2021, the Division had received only 165,000 submissions.
