In a Media Release on Wednesday (28th December 2022), the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries said it is forced to correct “the false and intentionally misleading story” that has been authored by journalist Curtis Williams, under a Reuters' publication titled, ’Trinidad prepared to reject BP, Shell offshore exploration bids.’
The Ministry states that, “Once again, this particular author has gotten his story wrong in his continued efforts to mislead not only the population of Trinidad and Tobago but now so, a wider global audience with this intentionally misleading story published by Reuters today.” The statement added, “Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Stuart R. Young, M.P. has informed the public, on several occasions, including via a nationally-carried TV6 news story last night, that the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries will be engaging in discussions and negotiations with both bpTT and Shell Trinidad and Tobago with respect to their bids for four (4) deep water blocks. Despite this open source information, Curtis Williams has intentionally authored a false story and unfortunately used Reuters as his publication platform.” According to the Ministry, “Both bpTT and Shell Trinidad and Tobago were informed weeks ago that the Ministry would be engaging them in discussions and negotiations pertaining to their bids for the four (4) deep water blocks and the parties are expected to commence these discussions and negotiations in January 2023.” The Media Release concluded by saying, “This irresponsible journalism by Mr. Williams is condemned and rejected.” We are a small operation.
