A pregnant woman and a teenager are dead while two (2) others were wounded, following a shooting incident in Arima last night (Thursday 28th December 2023). The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Amy Walcott and 16-year-old Roshan Ali, a student of the Valencia Secondary School.
One of the wounded victims has been identified as 18-year-old Daniel Alibocas, who was shot in the palm of his hand and chest. Meanwhile, a 12-year-old boy who has not yet been identified, was shot in his mouth and hand. They are presently warded at Hospital in stable conditions.
According to reports, Police responded to a report of a shooting at Zone 8, Mt. Zion Road, Arima, around 9:30 PM. Upon arrival, they found Walcott on a bed inside a single-room wooden house with an apparent gunshot wound to her forehead. She showed no signs of life. Ali was found lying on the floor with several gunshot wounds. He was taken by the EHS to the Arima Hospital for medical treatment. Police received further information that two (2) other persons had also been shot and were already at the Arima Hospital. Checks by Police at the Hospital confirmed that Alibocas and a 12-year-old boy were being treated for gunshot injuries. They were briefly interviewed and told Officers they were shot by a lone gunman.
District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr. Mendoza, visited the scene, viewed the bodies and ordered their removal, pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre in St. James.
A team of Officers visited the scene, including Insp. Lewis, Sgt. Joseph, PCs Seetaram, Williams and WPC Francois of the Arima Police Station, and Sgts. De Suze, Ramjohn, Cpl. Gonzales and PC Ramdhanie of the Arouca Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region II. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available.
