Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, has confirmed that Coast Guard Officers at the Cedros Port were placed in quarantine after rescuing a boatload of Venezuelan Nationals earlier this week. The Minister was responding to a question in the House of Representatives on Friday afternoon (22nd May 2020). The 32 Venezuelans were attempting to illegally enter T&T in the early hours of Wednesday morning (20th May 2020) when their vessel ran into problems, began sinking and had to be rescued by the Coast Guard. It was alleged that several Venezuelans were exhibiting “flu-like” symptoms, which led to the eventual quarantine of the Coast Guard Officers.
