Speaking at the Ministry of Health’s virtual Press Conference this morning (Wednesday 25th August 2021), Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, indicated that the Ministry is observing ongoing trials internationally of vaccines in children younger than twelve (12) years of age. He noted that they will wait for clearance from the World Health Organization (WHO) before any such vaccine is administered to the local population. “There are vaccines that are under trial under 12, for example, the Sinopharm vaccine which we have in Trinidad and Tobago, Pfizer vaccine and Moderna vaccine are being trialled at this point in time in different jurisdictions for use between the ages 3 and 17 years of age,” he said. The CMO added that, “The Sinopharm vaccine has also been given emergency use authorization in China as well as the United Arab Emirates most recently and…is in the process of going before WHO for approval in that age group. Once of course WHO approves that then we will have that available for that particular age group and that vulnerable group of 3 - 17.” This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates.
