Following its previous Riverine Flood Alert (Yellow Level), the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has now issued a Riverine Flood Warning (Orange Level) as both the Caroni River and South Oropouche River are outside of their banks, flooding surrounding areas. The new Riverine Flood Warning began at 12:12pm on Thursday 12th December and extends for nearly 30 hours until 6pm on Friday 13th December 2019.
The Riverine Flood Warning was elevated to an Orange Level as some areas of South Trinidad remain inundated with flood waters, which are even rising in a few areas. The situation has been compounded by the occurrence of Spring Tides, which will exacerbate conditions at High Tide around 4pm today. The Caroni River is currently at maximum capacity and has overflowed onto its banks and some low-lying surrounding areas.
