Caroll Spinney, the artistic genius responsible for the popular Sesame Street characters ‘Big Bird’ and ‘Oscar the Grouch’ died on Sunday (8th December 2019) at his home in Connecticut at age 85. He was suffering from Dystonia, which is a common movement disorder.
Spinney portrayed the beloved characters for 50 years before announcing his retirement in 2018. He won five (5) Daytime Emmys for his work on Sesame Street and earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 2006. ‘Big Bird’ earned his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, his likeness was featured on a U.S postage stamp and he was named a "Living Legend" in 2000 by the Library of Congress.

Caroll Spinney, the legendary puppeteer behind beloved Sesame Street characters Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, died today, December 8th 2019, at age 85 at his home in Connecticut, after living with Dystonia for some time.
