The Ministry of Health revealed in its daily 4pm update this afternoon (Saturday 19th December 2020) that there are nineteen (19) additional COVID-19 cases in Trinidad and Tobago. This represents a 26.67% increase in reported cases from yesterday.
The Ministry reported fifteen (15) cases yesterday. The country’s death toll currently stands at 123. T&T’s confirmed cases now rises to 6,974, with 425 being active cases. A total of 6,426 patients have recovered from the virus to date. The Ministry states that of the nineteen (19) new positive cases, one (1) is a recently repatriated person and one (1) is from Tobago. Further, the number of positive cases reported reflects the samples taken during the period 16th - 18th December 2020 and not the last 24 hours. In its latest update, the Ministry notes that one (1) person has been discharged from public health facilities and there have been twenty (20) recovered community cases. Recovered community cases refer to persons who were previously COVID-19 positive and in self-isolation at home, and subsequently met the discharge criteria and were released from self-isolation. The Ministry also notes that there are currently twenty-six (26) COVID-19 positive patients being treated at Hospitals:

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) is advising citizens that all National Identification Cards issued by the Commission, which are currently expired or due to expire in 2020, will now be valid until 30th June 2021.
In a Media Release issued on 16th December 2020, the EBC notes that, “This extension has become necessary to facilitate an anticipated increased level of renewals and the introduction of a new format Identification Card under new protocols, which are required for health and safety considerations under the current Pandemic situation.” The EBC states that this extension of the expiry date of Identification Cards is instituted in accordance with Registration Rules 31 (5) and (6) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01 and is a further extension to that, which was implemented earlier this year. All persons with an expired National Identification Card can call EBC offices (625-8994 or 623-4622) from Monday 21st December 2020 to make an appointment to commence the renewal process. Appointments are scheduled to begin on 4th January 2021. In order to facilitate the increased level of transactions and provide an improved level of customer service, their offices will operate with extended working hours for a three (3) month period. This will include offices being open to the public on Saturdays to facilitate walk-ins for renewals. The EBC urges that you bring all relevant documentation with you to these appointments to ensure the swiftest completion of the process.
A large waterspout was spotted off Trinidad’s Northwestern coast in the Gulf-of-Paria shortly before 3pm this afternoon (Friday 18th December 2020). No damage was reported as it moved out to sea.

Prime Minister Keith Rowley will host the Post-Cabinet Media Briefing at 2:30pm this afternoon (Thursday 17th December 2020) at the Diplomatic Centre in Port-of-Spain. No details were given about what the Prime Minister intends to discuss at this Press Conference.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is warning citizens that there are already persons out there seeking to turn the new $100 notes into counterfeit dollars. During this Christmas Season, these notes will be circulated as persons go about their shopping. The TTPS says that citizens should take note that the clear plastic window cannot be reproduced on paper. “Please check for the clear plastic window and be alert to reject any other window, white, or murky, which is how the counterfeit will be identified and defeated.”

Forty-two (42) errant motorists from various communities in South Trinidad were ticketed for numerous poor road safety practices yesterday (Tuesday 15th December 2020). The road safety and regulation exercises were conducted in Guapo, Fyzabad and Cedros by Officers of the South-Western Division Traffic Unit (SWDTU).
