The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) is warning citizens that it has received confirmed sightings of the Portuguese Man-O-War (a species related to Jellyfish) on the beaches of Manzanilla and to a lesser extent, Mayaro.
While not poisonous to humans, the tentacles of the Portuguese Man-O-War contains venomous stinging cells which can cause extremely painful blistering, stinging and burning sensations to the skin, in addition to vomiting and paralysis.
See the Public Advisory from the ODPM below, which include precautions as well as the proper treatment of stings from the Portuguese Man-O-War. You will notice that the myth of urinating on the affected area is NOT listed as a method of treatment.
