The Trinidad & Tobago Meteorological Service is advising citizens that there will be an increase in Saharan Dust on 10th and 11th June 2019 and these elevated levels will most likely continue affecting T&T until the end of June. For the first time since March 2019, air quality levels are nearing ‘unhealthy’ for sensitive groups across Trinidad & Tobago, as well as a number of islands across the Eastern Caribbean - due to a heavy concentration of Saharan Dust in the atmosphere. The Air Quality Index for T&T is currently rated as ‘Moderate.’ As air quality levels reach ‘unhealthy’ for sensitive groups, there is the increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms, aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in persons with Cardiopulmonary disease as well as the elderly.
Below are some necessary precautions you should take in dealing with the present high levels of Saharan Dust, as outlined by the Trinidad & Tobago Weather Center. We are a small operation.
