The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has just issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Trinidad, Tobago, and Grenada and its dependencies, beginning on Tuesday night (28th June 2022). A Tropical Storm Warning means that Tropical Storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within thirty-six (36) hours.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Tropical Storm Warning (Orange Level) for a total of twenty-one (21) hours. The Tropical Storm Warning begins at 8pm on Tuesday night (28th June 2022) and will remain in effect until 5pm on Wednesday evening (29th June 2022). According to the Met Office, the Tropical Wave located East of Trinidad and Tobago has been upgraded to Potential Tropical Cyclone #2 (TC#2). This means that the system is not yet a Tropical Cyclone but has the potential to intensify in a TC in short notice. As a result, Trinidad and Tobago has been put under a Tropical Storm Warning. A Tropical Storm Warning means that storm conditions are likely over the warning area within thirty-six (36) hours. Periods of heavy to intense showers and/or thunderstorms are likely, which can result in rainfall accumulations in excess of 3 inches. Gusty winds in excess of 70 Km/hr can be expected. These wind gusts are capable of breaking tree branches, displacing unsecured roofs and loose outdoor objects, and can even topple over unhealthy trees. The risk of landslides/landslips is likely in areas so prone and sea conditions can become occasionally rough. The Met Office says an update will be issued at 8pm tonight. Citizens are urged to prepare to protect lives, livelihood, and property. Plan your evacuation to a shelter if it becomes necessary. Always have emergency supplies of food and water on standby. Secure loose outdoor items and livestock. Do not wade or drive through flood waters. Pre-position sandbags if your area floods and monitor river levels. Follow the instructions of Government Officials. SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

In its third official statement at 6am this morning (Monday 27th June 2022), the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) reiterated that it has been monitoring the progress of a strong Tropical Wave in the Atlantic, which has the potential for cyclone development over the next few days.
According to the Met Office, at 2am this morning, the axis of this Wave was located near 45W. Showers and thunderstorm activity associated with this Tropical Wave located about 950 miles East-Southeast of the Windward Islands has increased. Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development, and a Tropical Depression is likely to form during the next couple of days before the system reaches the Windward Islands Tuesday night (28th June 2022) or possibly while moving Westward across the Southern Caribbean Sea Wednesday through Friday. A Hurricane Hunter aircraft from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon. Interests in the Windward Islands should closely monitor the progress of this system. The chance of tropical cyclone formation is high (70%) during the next forty-eight (48) hours, and also high (90%) over the next five (5) days. Regardless of development of the system, significant moisture associated with this system will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to Trinidad and Tobago and the Windward Islands from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. There are no watches or warnings in effect at this time. The TTMS said it will continue to closely monitor this system and will issue an update at 6pm today or earlier if the situation warrants. Meanwhile, in its 8am Tropical Weather Outlook this morning, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said the following: “A Tropical Wave located about 900 miles East-Southeast of the Southern Windward Islands is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is denying that warrants were issued for the arrests of eighteen (18) Police Officers allegedly involved in the June 2020 Morvant triple killing and that six (6) Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Police Officers were suspended.
The clarification comes as the TTPS noted two (2) articles from two (2) daily newspapers purporting that investigators were given advice on indicting suspects involved in the two (2) incidents. The TTPS asserts, however, that these investigations into the incidents involving IATF Officers earlier this month after a fete in Port-of-Spain and the Guard and Emergency Branch and IATF incident in Morvant in June 2020, are still ongoing. The TTPS said the public “will be informed on developments into these enquiries via legitimate Police sources as is customary.” Citizens and the media are reminded that information pertaining to the TTPS is legitimately shared via the Corporate Communications Unit, the Commissioner of Police, the Public Information Officer or TTPS’ Media Ambassadors. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) said in its second official statement at 6pm this evening (Sunday 26th June 2022) that it has been monitoring the progress of a strong Tropical Wave in the Atlantic, which has the potential for cyclone development over the next few days. At 2pm today, the axis of this Wave was located along 42W.
Showers and thunderstorm activity associated with this Tropical Wave, located about 1,000 miles East-Southeast of the Windward Islands, continues to show signs of organization. Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development, and a Tropical Depression is likely to form during the early to middle part of the upcoming week. This system is forecast to continue on a Westward track over the tropical Atlantic, approaching the Windward Islands on Tuesday (28th June 2022), then move across the South-Eastern Caribbean Sea on Wednesday and Thursday. Interests in the Windward Islands should closely monitor the progress of this system. The chance of tropical cyclone formation is medium (40%) during the next forty-eight (48) hours, but high (70%) over the next five (5) days. Regardless of intensification or development of the system, significant moisture associated with this system will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to Trinidad and Tobago and the Windward Islands from Tuesday night (28th June 2022) into Wednesday morning (29th June 2022). There are no watches or warnings in effect at this time. The TTMS said it will continue to closely monitor this system and will issue an update at 6am tomorrow (Monday 27th June 2022) or earlier if the situation warrants.
