Since launching its streaming service 12 years ago, Netflix has just made its biggest price hikes to date. This is the fourth time Netflix has raised prices - the last time being October 2017.
Previous rate hikes, however, have had little effect on subscriber growth. Netflix saw subscriber growth of 10.7% year-over-year last Quarter, with a total of 58 Million U.S subscribers. Outside of the U.S, Netflix has more than 78 Million subscribers. See Netflix’s new prices below and continue reading for more information.
Starting immediately, new customers will now pay US $8.99 for the Basic Plan (previously $7.99), $12.99 for the HD Plan (previously $10.99) and $15.99 for the 4K Premium Plan (previously $13.99). Existing customers will be grandfathered in and therefore have an extra three (3) months before their prices also increase.
Netflix will definitely need this extra cash as they try to fend off current streaming competitors such as Amazon, Hulu and HBO. But their biggest threats are on the horizon - as giants such as Apple, Disney and NBCUniversal are all launching streaming products either this year or next.
