A teenager has died following a road traffic accident yesterday morning (Tuesday 12th March, 2024) near the Grand Bazaar Interchange, just off the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway. The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Justin Nunes-Xavier of Real Street, San Juan.
According to reports, the victim was driving South along the Uriah Butler Highway, around 7:50 AM, in his white Toyota Tercel, when he attempted to switch from the left lane and lost control of the vehicle near the Grand Bazaar Intersection. The vehicle then collided with a pole along the median, opposite the Pro-Tech Shipping Company.
The accident caused a major traffic pile-up as motorists stopped and rushed out of their vehicles to render assistance to Nunez-Xavier.
Officials at the scene described the car as “totally damaged.” Nunez-Xavier was taken via Ambulance to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt. Hope, where he later succumbed to his injuries. There were no other fatalities or injuries as a result of the accident, and no damage was done to the pole. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available.
