Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, is strongly advising citizens to get the Influenza Vaccination as soon as possible - especially during this current Flu season. He is also urging parents to keep their sick children away from School.
Dr. Parasram made these comments in a recent interview with Newsday, where he also stated that another 20,000 Influenza Vaccines are being ordered by the Health Ministry. In addition to three (3) confirmed deaths from Swine Flu, there has been an unconfirmed report of a fourth death at a Health Center. We are now in the process of ordering 20,000 more Vaccines so we’ll have 95,000 for the current Flu season (October 2018 - May 2019).
Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh has confirmed in Parliament that there are currently seventeen (17) ‘laboratory-confirmed’ cases of Swine Flu in T&T as of 11th January 2019. Minister Deyalsingh also admitted that three (3) pregnant women almost died.
