In an unexpected move, Sandals has officially withdrawn from the Tobago project. The announcement was made at a joint Press Conference today with the Minister of Communications, Stuart Young and CEO of Sandals, Gebhard Rainer.
Minister Young said a handful of people had tainted a global international brand and that it was a sad and disappointing day. According to CEO Rainer, the main reason for withdrawing was the negative publicity surrounding the project. He said it was very unfortunate that they had to take this step but they believe it is best to withdraw and focus on other areas that will be more effective.
He also noted that the Sandals Team had been grateful for the unwavering support and transparency from the Government of T&T. We are a small operation.
