A manhunt has been launched after a prisoner managed to escape custody while receiving medical treatment at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on Tuesday night (23rd April, 2024).
According to reports, the 38-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with store-breaking and larceny, was handcuffed to a bed at the Surgical Ward, Room 202, around 9:10 PM. A Special Reserve Police (SRP) Officer, who was on guard duty at the time, then allegedly got up to stretch his legs. However, about two (2) minutes later, a nurse approached him and inquired as to the whereabouts of the prisoner he was supposed to be watching. The Police Constable subsequently made checks in and around the ward for the prisoner, who was not found. It is believed he escaped through a window. The SRP notified his Seniors and a team of Officers, led by Insp. Lewis, responded to the scene and conducted a search for the suspect, which proved futile. W/Sgt. St. Louis-Dedier is said to be continuing investigations into the incident. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Ian Alleyne] We are a small operation.
