There have also been unconfirmed reports that an Officer’s arm was amputated during surgery. The article below has been updated with the latest available information. Four (4) off-duty Police Officers were taken to Hospital this morning (Sunday 28th August 2022) following a road traffic accident in San Fernando. The accident took place following a breakfast party attended by the group of Officers, which was held at the Brian Lara Stadium. The injured Officers were identified as Police Constables St. John, Edwards, Colvis, and Li, all from the Port-of-Spain Court and Process Unit. They were in a white panel van, driven by St. John. Two (2) civilians, Tesfa Defour and a friend, identified only as Shane, were in a Nissan Cefiro motorcar driven by Defour. They received minor injuries and were medically examined by paramedics at the scene and allowed to leave. The crash happened at the intersection of the Brian Lara Stadium Road and Gasparillo Bypass Road at around 10:30 AM. Reports state that the panel van with the Officers exited the link road and turned right when the Nissan Cefiro, driven by Defour, and heading the same direction, collided with the van. The van flipped, throwing out two (2) of the Officers in the process. It landed partially on the car at the roadside. The driver, PC St. John, was said to be pinned in the front seat. All Officers received serious injuries in the crash, with one suffering injuries to his back and shoulders, including “large cuts.”
The injured Officers were all taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for medical treatment. This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates. [Source: Newsday] We are a small operation.
