UPDATE (11am): The NHC has noted that some strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours for this disturbance, and the system is forecast to become a Tropical Storm tonight (Tuesday 28th July 2020) or Wednesday. UPDATE (10:15am): According to the Met Office, this strong active Tropical Wave is beginning to traverse the Eastern Caribbean this morning. Heavy showers already reported in Tobago while Trinidad is cloudy/overcast with light to moderate showers in some areas. There have been a number of lightning strikes in East Trinidad. Periods of heavy showers and Thunderstorm activity is expected in varying locations across both islands today. Improved conditions are forecast for later this evening. Gusty winds and Street/Flash Flooding may accompany heavy showers or Thunderstorms. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) for eleven (11) hours on Tuesday 28th July 2020, starting from 7am until 6pm. The Met Office says this is due to oncoming Thunderstorm activity along the leading edge of an active Tropical Wave (Invest 92L), which the Met Office and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami are both monitoring. These Thunderstorms can be accompanied with gusty winds in excess of 60 Km/hr, possible Street/Flash Flooding, Landslips and Landslides. The NHC continues to give this system a high chance for development in the next 48 hours as well as in the next 5 days. See their 8am update (Tuesday 28th July 2020) below for further information: An elongated area of low pressure located about 500 miles east of the Windward Islands is producing a wide area of showers and thunderstorms. Although recent satellite imagery suggests that the system does not yet have a well-defined center, data from NOAA buoy 41040 indicate that the system is producing winds near tropical-storm-force. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon and will provide more information about the current state of the disturbance.
